Thank holy God in heaven! As a nerd you wish certain things would happen that will make your nerdiness seem worthwhile and today is one of those days. Zack Snyder has been tapped by Christopher “the godfather” Nolan to direct Superman: The Man of Steel.

When it was announced that Snyder was on the short list of directors I was readily excited but still kept my reserve thinking the job would go to someone else. Nolan must have seen what I have in Snyder’s work. A love for the material he directs and an attention to detail that is almost unmatched except, possibly, by Nolan himself. Snyder is no stranger to the superhero flick already having the excellent Watchmen under his belt. Now he can add the apex of superheros to the mix.

Now the only question is who will Nolan, Snyder and company pick as their new Man of Steel. I would hope Brandon Routh would at least be given a chance to come back but I realize this is a reboot and it will be a fresh face.

Superman: The Man of Steel is targeted for a holiday 2012 release.
