If you don’t want to wait for the trailer premiere at the 2010 Scream Awards here is the leaked version which finds out old pal Ghostface getting all stabby with a new group of fresh meat as well as Courtney Cox, Neve Campbell and David Arquette. Will Office Doofy make it through another flick unscathed? Does Wes Craven still have “it”?

Nathan Fillion Wants To Find Drake’s Fortune

15 Oct

by Captain Oblivious

Well this sounds familiar. Seems about a year ago I did a bit of fantasy casting for the Uncharted movie and while I ultimately said Chris Pine would be a great Nathan Drake I though Nathan Fillion would be awesome also.

Seems Fillion thinks that also. He is on a very public campaign to try and get the lead role in the upcoming movie based on the very popular Playstation video game. And where do you begin a grassroots campaign for anything these days? Why Twitter of course. Fillion wants his 650,000 fans to champion his cause and I for one am with him. He would be the not so obvious but nonetheless amazing choice to take over this hopefully soon to be franchise.

Captain’s Pick 3- October 2010

11 Oct

by Captain Oblivious

Welcome back to another thrilling edition of the Captain’s Pick 3. Ahh October is here bringing with it cool weather and a month filled with horror movies. Unless you live where I do and it happens to be October 11 and it is 93 degrees outside. Nature is a fickle mistress. Anyway let’s roll…..

3. Taco Bell

I told you the Pick 3 could be anything. Why Taco Bell you may ask? Well because as a person of limited fundage the bell of taco has kept food in my gullet on a regular basis for a long time. Now add in the 2 dollar combos and two new sauces (verde and fire roasted FYI) and Taco Bell is going to have a big October in my house….and colon.

2. Jackass 3D

Am I really that immature? I just put Taco Bell as my third most important thing in October so you tell me. Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn and the rest of the crew return to try and make me dry heave again only this time in the full wonder of the third dimension. HIGH FIVE!!

1. Fable 3

Ok I admit. I am a Peter Molyneux apologist. Does he over-promise on every game he has ever been involved in? Yes but that doesn’t mean that they are not fun, quality games. I put over 80 hours in Fable 2 and still did not complete all the side quests. It was one of my favorite games two years ago and I am super psyched about the third installment which has you building an army of followers to take over the throne of Albion. But when you do become ruler how will you rule? With a gentle heart or an iron fist? Hmmm can’t wait to see.

Zack Snyder Takes On The Man Of Steel

5 Oct

by Captain Oblivious

Thank holy God in heaven! As a nerd you wish certain things would happen that will make your nerdiness seem worthwhile and today is one of those days. Zack Snyder has been tapped by Christopher “the godfather” Nolan to direct Superman: The Man of Steel.

When it was announced that Snyder was on the short list of directors I was readily excited but still kept my reserve thinking the job would go to someone else. Nolan must have seen what I have in Snyder’s work. A love for the material he directs and an attention to detail that is almost unmatched except, possibly, by Nolan himself. Snyder is no stranger to the superhero flick already having the excellent Watchmen under his belt. Now he can add the apex of superheros to the mix.

Now the only question is who will Nolan, Snyder and company pick as their new Man of Steel. I would hope Brandon Routh would at least be given a chance to come back but I realize this is a reboot and it will be a fresh face.

Superman: The Man of Steel is targeted for a holiday 2012 release.

A 3D Jar Jar? Sign Me Up!!!

I wonder if George Lucas knows he can’t take his money to hell with him (or heaven I can’t judge). Because he wants more of it like he needs it. Haven’t you gotten all you can out of me Lucas. Multiple VHS releases and the DVD set and Blu-Ray next year you think you can just squeeze me dry. I defended you for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and this is how you repay me?!

Ok now that I am off that soapbox on to the reason. Lucas will begin re-re(?)-releasing all six Star Wars films in 3D starting in 2012. Lucas said as much after seeing Avatar last year but now it looks about as close to official as it can get. He will release one episode a year so we have to pain through Episodes 1 and 2 until we get at least some quality in 2014. They will be post converted (obviously) but I’m think old Georgie boy will throw enough money at it that it will come out looking on the better end like Nightmare Before Christmas and not headache inducing like Clash of the Titans.

2010 Movie Preview- True Grit

by Captain Oblivious

Who would dare take on arguably John Wayne’s most famous role? Well that would be Joel and Ethan Coen. And if you eve saw their “modern” western No Country For Old Men then you know full well that this movie is in very good hands. The Coens have recruited Jeff Bridges fresh off of his Oscar win as the new Rooster Cogburn who helps a young girl track down her father’s killer played by Josh Brolin.

True Grit opens on Christmas Day.

Christopher Nolan Hard At Work On The Superman/Batman Front

24 Sep

by Captain Oblivious

A couple of notes to pass along on this otherwise boring Friday.

Christopher Nolan seems to be moving on from his summer blockbuster Inception and putting more focus on two huge projects. First up is the news that he has finally started on the screenplay for his third Batman outing which is due summer 2012.

The director had this to say about his next trip to Gotham:

“I don’t like to talk too much about things until I’m further along with them.  But I’m working on the script right now.  My brother Jonah has done a draft for the script and now I’m writing on it.  We have set a release date and as far as the film being officially greenlit, they haven’t told they don’t want to do it. So I’m hopeful.”

Next up is his “godfather” role in helping Warner get a new Superman movie out by the end of 2012 when the studio loses the rights to the character. David Goyer is already hard at work on the script which Nolan has already said he approves in the way it brings Superman into a “modern context”. He supposedly will be making his suggestion to Warner Bros. for a director in the next few weeks from a short list and my thoughts on them are this:

– Tony Scott (I like him but I don’t want Denzel as my new Superman)

– Johnathan Liebsman (probably a no-go since he’s already attached to Clash of the Titans 2: Clash Harder)

– Duncan Jones (I loved Moon and would wonder how he would handle an iconic character with a big budget)

– Zack Snyder (in a perfect world yes. A thousand times yes)

– Matt Reeves (I liked Cloverfield and Let Me In looks like it should be good. Could he handle the pressure?)
