A 3D Jar Jar? Sign Me Up!!!

29 Sep

by Captain Oblivious

I wonder if George Lucas knows he can’t take his money to hell with him (or heaven I can’t judge). Because he wants more of it like he needs it. Haven’t you gotten all you can out of me Lucas. Multiple VHS releases and the DVD set and Blu-Ray next year you think you can just squeeze me dry. I defended you for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and this is how you repay me?!

Ok now that I am off that soapbox on to the reason. Lucas will begin re-re(?)-releasing all six Star Wars films in 3D starting in 2012. Lucas said as much after seeing Avatar last year but now it looks about as close to official as it can get. He will release one episode a year so we have to pain through Episodes 1 and 2 until we get at least some quality in 2014. They will be post converted (obviously) but I’m think old Georgie boy will throw enough money at it that it will come out looking on the better end like Nightmare Before Christmas and not headache inducing like Clash of the Titans.

2010 Movie Preview- True Grit

29 Sep

by Captain Oblivious

Who would dare take on arguably John Wayne’s most famous role? Well that would be Joel and Ethan Coen. And if you eve saw their “modern” western No Country For Old Men then you know full well that this movie is in very good hands. The Coens have recruited Jeff Bridges fresh off of his Oscar win as the new Rooster Cogburn who helps a young girl track down her father’s killer played by Josh Brolin.

True Grit opens on Christmas Day.

Christopher Nolan Hard At Work On The Superman/Batman Front

A couple of notes to pass along on this otherwise boring Friday.

Christopher Nolan seems to be moving on from his summer blockbuster Inception and putting more focus on two huge projects. First up is the news that he has finally started on the screenplay for his third Batman outing which is due summer 2012.

The director had this to say about his next trip to Gotham:

“I don’t like to talk too much about things until I’m further along with them.  But I’m working on the script right now.  My brother Jonah has done a draft for the script and now I’m writing on it.  We have set a release date and as far as the film being officially greenlit, they haven’t told they don’t want to do it. So I’m hopeful.”

Next up is his “godfather” role in helping Warner get a new Superman movie out by the end of 2012 when the studio loses the rights to the character. David Goyer is already hard at work on the script which Nolan has already said he approves in the way it brings Superman into a “modern context”. He supposedly will be making his suggestion to Warner Bros. for a director in the next few weeks from a short list and my thoughts on them are this:

– Tony Scott (I like him but I don’t want Denzel as my new Superman)

– Johnathan Liebsman (probably a no-go since he’s already attached to Clash of the Titans 2: Clash Harder)

– Duncan Jones (I loved Moon and would wonder how he would handle an iconic character with a big budget)

– Zack Snyder (in a perfect world yes. A thousand times yes)

– Matt Reeves (I liked Cloverfield and Let Me In looks like it should be good. Could he handle the pressure?)

Bioshock: Infinite Gameplay May Make You Forget All About Rapture.

22 Sep

by Captain Oblivious

I was blown away by the Bioshock: Infinite trailer a few months ago but this…..this is simply amazing. Ten minutes of gameplay that blurs the line between cinema and shooting that it is hard to tell where the player is being controlled. Ken Levine and Irrational is looking to make another leap in gaming as they did with the first Bioshock.

The airborne city of Columbia is in stark contrast to Rapture. Squeaky clean and bright instead of dank and wet. I think I could keep typing about all I saw in this 10 minute footage. But I think you should experience it for yourself.

Bioshock: Infinite will be released in 2012.

2010 Movie Preview- Due Date Trailer #2

17 Sep

by Captain Oblivious

Here is the second trailer for Todd Phillips’ Due Date starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zack Galifianakis. I am not normally one to call a win before seeing a movie but this looks like it will be an awesome follow up to The Hangover for Phillips.
