Royal Rumble 2010 Results

It’s time for all wrestling fans to partake in Pat Patterson’s baby once again. No not the young Asian gentleman he probably dates right now. I am talking about the Royal Rumble. I have to say that this was one of the hardest Rumbles to predict in a long time. And with a pretty strong undercard it looks like the WWE is having a good start on the road to Wrestlemania. Let’s just hope there are no speed bumps or potholes along the way.

1. Christian defeated Ezekial Jackson to retain the ECW title.

-I was honestly surprised by this. I thought this was as good a time as any to get the title off of Christian. With the possible rebranding of ECW seemingly on the horizon I believe it makes sense for a fresh start and Christian has done all he can for ECW. It is time for a change of venue. The match itself was entertaining. It showed off Jackson’s strengths while making him look strong in a loss.

Score: 7.5/10

2. The Miz defeated MVP to retain the U.S. title

– I didn’t mind these two having an impromptu match. I believe the feud is strong enough that it can carry to Wrestlemania. So if the WWE is going to have these two have a big time payoff match in Phoenix having an unannounced match last night doesn’t hurt matters. It was only around 7 minutes but it progressed the feud nicely. I loved Miz getting in MVP’s face after the match yelling “I told you!” More and more every week The Miz looks and sound like a future main eventer, not just a flash in the pan.

Score: 7/10

3. Sheamus defeated Randy Orton by DQ to retain the WWE title.

– I didn’t like the idea of these two having a one on one match as heels. I quickly changed my opinion. I was intrigued the way this match unfolded. Both focusing on different body parts. Both wrestling a slow paced heel style. It just worked for me. I loved the ending. DQ finishes are becoming too commonplace lately but this actually progressed the storytelling. Orton as a face? Hmm. Interesting possibility.

Score: 7/10

4. Mickie James defeated Michelle McBangtaker to win the Women’s title.

– Thank God! Finally! McCool has held this title for like 9 months. Even the two months she didn’t wrestle with a knee injury! The women’s division is in the crapper in the WWE and here is hoping that Mickie’s title run can helps things….on Smackdown. Raw is lost totally and completely. I have never cared less about the divas on Raw ever.

Score: 8/10 (even though it was only 20 seconds. Cause Mickie won)

5. Undertaker defeated Rey Mysterio to retain the World Heavyweight title.

– I don’t know what it was but this match did not click with me. I think this was 5 years too late. Mysterio has had so many knee surgeries he is the shadow of his former self and Taker is on his last leg….or hip. More and more I begin to think that this may be Taker’s last Wrestlemania. The match itself was not bad but it also did not blow the walls off the joint. I do love how Mysterio was not even granted the courtesy of a tombstone. Last ride 1-2-3.

Score: 6/10

25. R-Truth (Kofi)

26. Jack Swagger (Kofi)

27. Kofi Kingston (Cena)

28. Chris Jericho (Edge)

29. Edge

30. Batista (Cena)

– It was a good rumble but not a great one. There honestly hasn’t been a great one since Pat Patterson left and stopped booking them. At just over 49 minutes this was the shortest rumble I can remember. That disappoints me a lot because I expect them to at least be one hour. But entertaining nonetheless. The rumble MVP (no pun) has to go to C.M Punk who I thought was eliminated way too early and made the fist third of the rumble watchable.

Score: 7.5/10

Overall: 7.5/10

-Good but not great. There is a lot of things to be cleared up over the next few weeks now. Which title will Edge vie for? What is the deal with Orton and Legacy now? Will Shawn get his rematch with Taker? And as always you have Bret Hart coming back tonight on Raw. Should be a fun next few months!
