WWE TLC 2009 Reactions…

WWE has been going through the process of revamping almost all of their monthly PPV’s with the exception of the big four (Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, Summerlsam and Survivor Series) and the results have been mixed. Breaking Point’s all submission only style failed to really click on the level WWE needed it to to justify it’s 40 dollar price tag. Bragging Rights still seems like a good concept it just didn’t come together very well mostly, I believe, because of it being held in October so close to Survivor Series which I think overloads the audience with too many multiple person matches in a two month span.

The next variation on the WWE’s docket was held last night with TLC. Where there would be one tables match, one chairs match, one ladder match, and one TLC match. I for one think that the WWE in looking for buyrates are putting their talent in harm’s way. It is fine to have a TLC main event where a maximum of four guys are involved but last night you had ten main event or near main event (sorry Shelton) players all putting themselves in harm’s way on one night. It sounds fun to watch but it could also spell disaster on any given year they hold this.

That being said last night’s PPV was a strong follow up to a good Survivor Series. Most matches delivered and besides from an odd finish or two the night was a success. Let’s take a look.

1. Christian defeated Shelton Benjamin to retain the ECW title.

-A solid opener that the crowd really enjoyed. I guess a plus of this PPV concept is being able to start off the show with a ladder match. While there were not a lot of OMG moments it was an enjoyable ladder match. People may be expecting flying bodies everywhere but you have to protect your stars as well. Was surprised that Christian retained though. Felt this was a good a time as any to give Shelton a boost up to champion.

Score: 7.5/10

2. Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison to win the Intercontinental Championship

-At first I thought this was the wow moment of the PPV (but we all know that was yet to come). The match itself was decent I just really, really feel that this wasn’t Drew’s time. I think with Morrison you had not just a place holder but someone that kept the IC title important. Now I’m not doubting McIntyre’s abilities but I thought his first title should have been a couple of months off. Especially with Dolph Ziggler getting the shaft since August.

Score: 7/10

3. Michelle McCool defeated Mickie James to retain the Women’s title.

– McCool is the first diva I truly think (though it is not fact) that has political stroke in the locker room and it all has to do with who she’s giving the stroke to……(that would be Undertaker by the way). She has been champion for six and a half months and was injured for two of them and did nothing with the title! With Smackdown now holding Beth Phoenix and Mickie James on the roster it is a damn shame that McCool keeps holding this title because of her ability to give the deadman rigamortis.

Score: 5.5/10

4. Sheamus defeated John Cena in a tables match to win the WWE title.

-Wow….really…..wow. And in the best possible way. Like I said last night even if Sheamus loses tonight the record books cannot be changed. To quote Ricky Bobby “That….just….happened.” I thought last night would be a gauger on how well Sheamus could really hold his own in the big lights of the main event. But it turns out somebody backstage pulled the trigger and we have to biggest title win since C.M. Punk beat Edge on Raw. And in my opinion Sheamus did hold his own last night and I don’t theink the crowd was indifferent to his win….they were shocked. Too shocked to boo or react at all. And you know what? That’s a good thing. Now we just have to see where Sheamus goes from here now that he is “the man”.

Score: 7.5/10

5. Undertaker defeated Batista in a chairs match to retain the World title.

-Some people were optomistic that this feud could work again as it did almost three years ago. It didn’t. Taker can carry almost anyone through a match but I don’t think you are going to get the same quality of matches you got three years ago. I hate to say this but Taker is a placeholder champion and Batista is the placeholder #1 contender. Smackdown is loaded with so much talent I think it is a shame that we have to see these two fight for the title…..and this is coming from a Taker fan. The match was slow and plodding as expected and the screwy finish did not help matters any.

Score: 6/10

6. Randy Orton defeated Kofi Kingston

-Having this match with no stipulations in between two title matches hurt a little bit I think. And I completely agree with J.R. somewhere between MSG and here the feud cooled off….maybe too soon. I don’t think it is the writers fault with this either I think there is no real explanation as to why….but it just happened. Kofi winning would have helped him immensely but I think Orton may have gotten the win because of McIntyre’s and Sheamus’ wins earlier…to balance to card.

Score: 7/10

7. DX defeated JeriShow to win the Unified Tag Team titles

– I am sad now. After tonight’s Slammy Awards I don’t know when we will see Jericho on Raw again. I personally thought they should have kept the title on JeriShow just for the excuse that Jericho could do all shows. Cause let’s face it over the past two years no one has been more valuable to the WWE than Chris Jericho. Now that Dx has the titles how long will they keep them? Who knows. I don’t think it will be for very long because Wrestlemania is creeping up and I’m sure HBK and HHH will have their own programs going for the big show. But this match was entertaining. Probably the most entertaining of the night. Big Show really held his own in what is basically a ladder match. The finish was a nice turn on the formula as well.

Score: 8/10

Overall: 7.5/10

*Now we are headed towards the Royal Rumble which I am excited about because like many of my friends think we have absolutely no idea who is going to win the thing.

Let us know what you thought of the PPV last night. We love the feedback!!
